From June 24th to 27th, we used our collected donations to guide and finance a group of Ukrainian refugees from Odessa, Kharkiv, and Donetsk from their beloved but threatened homes to an unknown yet safe new daily life near Neumünster.
From our headquarters The Hague, the international city of peace and justice, we spent three days, with little time to do much else, navigating the shockingly dense and seemingly unexplored bureaucracy of Ukrainian asylum seekers in Germany. Whilst the group was making their way through Poland and Germany we were stuck on our own little odyssey of trying to make most efficient use of our limited funds and guaranteeing a pleasant journey for our 12 entrustees.
After a train from Przemysl to Krakow followed by a Flixbus to Berlin, where they were welcomed and guided by our German-speaking team member Melek, the last train ride led the group to their destination, Neumünster.
We are more than delighted to know that after some months, all our Ukrainian friends are doing well, having relocated to other cities in Germany or staying in Neumünster, but of course still missing their homes, their families, their lives.
